About Us
Minghella Film Festival
The Minghella Film Festival on the Isle of Wight is a charitable event hosted by Anthony Minghella's family that aims to celebrate his life and continue his legacy. Established in 2009, on the first anniversary of his death, the festival provides an ongoing retrospective of Anthony's work and a platform for showcasing the artists and filmmakers that he still inspires.
Minghella Movie Marathon
The Minghella Movie Marathon, 13 - 15 March 2009, featured screenings of Anthony's films together with behind-the-scene documentaries and talks by those who knew and loved him. The event, organised by Anthony's family, the Island's Young Chamber and the British Film Institute, formed the first in our series of tributes to Anthony's life and work.
In the spirit of previous Island film premieres hosted by Anthony, proceeds from the event were donated to local charities. Beneficiaries included:
Bach & Beckett
A fund established in Anthony's memory to help grow young film, drama and musical talent on the Island and to provide motivated and talented young people with resources and opportunities to develop and showcase their talents.
Barely Born
Charity appeal on behalf of a new Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) for St Mary's Hospital on the Isle of Wight for the Island's sick babies and their parents.
Comic Relief
Red Nose Day is a UK-wide fundraising event organised by Comic Relief, which in 2009 coincided with our opening night. Funny that! Comic Relief is seriously committed to helping end poverty and social injustice in the UK and the poorest countries in the world, and Anthony was an active supporter of the cause.
Help2Grieve
Providing bereavement support services for children and young people on the Isle of Wight and raising awareness and understanding within the wider community of the impact of loss on young lives.
Isle of Wight Youth Trust
A charitable, independent and professional organisation offering counselling, advice, information and support services to young people aged 25 and under on the Isle of Wight and, in some cases, their parents or carers.
