The second Minghella Film Festival will take place in Newport on the Isle of Wight, 12-14 March 2010. Last year showcased Anthony Minghella's movie work featuring introductions by members of his family and interviews with close friends and colleagues such as Jude Law, Alan Rickman and Lord David Putnam. This year's event continues the personal approach to presenting Anthony's work, with a fascinating and eclectic programme centred on his TV and radio career: from the BAFTA and Emmy-award winning children's series, The Storyteller, to Inspector Morse - recently listed amongst the top 50 television dramas of all time.
For 2010, the festival is also expanding to include films by young, aspiring and early-career filmmakers, inspired by Anthony's example. The weekend will open with the UK premiere of The Be All and End All, a feature film produced and directed by Island resident Bruce Webb, recent winner of 'Best Premier Film' at Monte Carlo Comedy Film Festival. Webb's film will be shown in a double-bill with Love You More, the short film debut of award-wining artist Sam Taylor-Wood, which was produced by Anthony.
This year's expanded festival programme will also feature the 'best of' the Isle of Wight Short Film Festival; digital shorts presented by Screen South, the film and media agency for the South East; and films produced by island schools. There will be workshops, Q&A sessions and talks to inform, entertain and inspire anyone interested in film - young or old.
UK Premiere: The Be All and End All
Friday 12 March
At fifteen, Robbie has only one thing on his mind - losing his virginity. The problem is that he's in hospital with a fatal heart condition. And who has to overcome the odds and help him fulfill his final wish? His best friend Ziggy. The first feature directed by Island-based filmmaker, Bruce Webb, is a bitter-sweet comedy exploring the true meaning of friendship. The film was made over a four year period with a modest 110k budget, and shot in Liverpool in the summer of 2008.
The Be All and End All scooped the best premier film award at the 2009 Monte Carlo Comedy Film Festival. The two young leads, Eugene Byrne and Josh Bolt in their acting debuts, also earned a special mention from the festival jury. Josh has since been cast in Nowhere Boy, the debut feature from Sam Taylor-Wood whose short film, Love You More, will be shown alongside The Be All and End All as part of an opening night double-bill.
