Submit your short film for next year's festival

We are working with the Isle of Wight Short Film Festival to bring you the best of the 2009 competition, together with Screen South's digital shorts selection from across the region. Next year we hope to bring our activities closer together, so that we can support each other in our shared ambition to develop opportunities and aspirations for filmmaking at all levels.

Enter our young filmmakers' competition

Young Islanders (up to 19 years old) are invited to create a short film in response to the theme 'A great day for the Isle of Wight' - inspired by Anthony's 1997 Oscar acceptance speech. This was the memorable moment when he brought the Island to the attention of audiences worldwide, revealing not only his deep affection for his home, but also his generous instinct to share and celebrate his success with us all.

All films will be seen by a panel of Anthony's friends and family. Our favourite entries will be presented in public, on the big screen, as part of the festival.

The Minghella Film Festival raises funds for charities that support children and young people on the Isle of Wight, and other causes that were close to Anthony's heart.

Members of the IW Young Chamber are actively involved in the Minghella Film Festival - in fact we couldn't do it without them. Students from participating high schools meet regularly in the build up to the festival, with the support of Young Chamber staff. They help to spread the word about the festival amongst local businesses, to attract much needed corporate sponsorship and support, and to ensure the smooth running of the event.

IW Young Chamber connects schools and local businesses through the Chamber of Commerce network. It gives young people a voice to engage with business and experience a greater understanding of the workplace, enterprise and future employment opportunities. High schools involved this year are Carisbrooke, Cowes, Medina and Ryde plus Christ the King's College.

Young Chamber started on the Island and is now being successfully developed across the UK, thanks in part to the vision of Anthony's father, Edward Minghella. Former Chairman of the IW Chamber of Commerce, Edward has since been given Honorary Life Membership.
