Opening night film premiere and launch party

Our opening night double bill features two debut films from British directors: the first, a short produced by Anthony himself with Caroline Harvey (attending) that launched the film career of close friend Sam Taylor-Wood and the second, a feature by island resident Bruce Webb. Both films celebrate the exuberance of youth and take a refreshingly honest look at sexual discovery and the loss of innocence.

Love you more

2008. Starring Harry Treadaway, Andrea Risebourough.
Directed by Sam Taylor Wood. 18 min.

A short story about adolescent passions, from boys to The Buzzcocks. Love You More is directed by award-winning artist Sam Taylor-Wood and written by Oscar nominee Patrick Marber (Closer, Notes on a Scandal). The film received nominations for a BAFTA as well as the Palme d'Or, and went on to be awarded Best Short Film at the British Independent Film Awards and Short Filmmaking Award - Honourable Mention at Sundance Film Festival 2009.

Minghella on Beckett

A double-bill showcasing Anthony's passion for Samuel Beckett and its influence on his own writing.

Play

2000. Starring Alan Rickman, Juliet Stevenson, Kristin Scott-Thomas.
Director Anthony Minghella. 8 min repeated.

Beckett on Film was a unique project, through which some of the world's most talented directors and actors were invited to film all 19 of Samuel Beckett's plays. Anthony, who had always loved the work of Beckett, chose Play - one of the earliest pieces of theatres he'd directed as a drama student at Hull University.

Eyes Down Looking

Live reading with Dexter Fletcher and David Threlfall.

This radio play by Anthony from 2006 is another homage to Beckett, of whom he once said: "The sense of language and poetry in his writing has been the single biggest influence on me as a writer.' Similarly influential were his life-long collaborations with the actors he, including Juliet Stevenson and David Threlfall who featured in the original recording. David Threlfall joins us now to lead a live reading of the play.
